Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1

While mobile manufacturers were having a field day at 3GSM, Panasonic was busy introducing new cameras in Japan. The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1, a 5-megapixel cam equipped with a high-powered zoom, was announced in Japan.

Capable of 10x zoom, Panasonic claims that the TZ1 is the world's smallest camera to offer such a high level of zoom. The zoom can go up to 12.5x, when you shoot images at 3-megapixel resolution. Pretty good as digital cameras go. The camera uses Leica DC F2.8 lens, and like the other Lumix models, features Mega O.I.S. (or Optical Image Stabilizer).

You get a standard 2.5" preview LCD at 200k pixels with enhanced features for viewing even in low-light conditions. On a single charge, you can get nearly 250 photos, provided you don't use the LCD too much.

The TZ1 also allows you to capture action so that videos are not distorted when viewed on a wide-screen TV. It also provides 18 different scene modes, making it an ideal amateur point-and-shoot camera. Integrated 13.4MB memory (useful for - hmm, nothing actually) is available but it'd be wiser to invest in a separate SD memory card.
