Panasonic DMC-FZ7 6 Megapixel

Panasonic has launched its latest addition to the Lumix family of digital cameras, the Panasonic DMC-FZ7. The FZ7 has all of 6 megapixels and features a powerful 12x optical zoom capable Leica DC lens (equivalent to 36mm - 432mm on a 35mm film camera lens). That's something to desire for. On the technology side, the camera features Panasonic's Mega OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer) that compensates for shaky hands. This is a great feature to have on a camera, especially when shooting at high levels of optical zoom. The new High Sensitivity Mode compensates for blur caused by subjects that move unpredictably. All this helps the FZ7 support ISO speeds up to 1600.

There's a 2.5" LCD that is guaranteed to work well in low-light. Battery life has been pumped up through the use of a 710mAh battery that allows you to shoot over 300 images on a single charge. There are 16 scene modes to choose from (including a "Baby" mode) plus a macro mode. The Panasonic DMC-FZ7 is equipped with both automatic and manual controls that meet the needs of prosumers and beginners alike. A joystick makes manual control a breeze.

The Panasonic DMC-FZ7 carries a MSRP of US$ 400 and will be on sale from March 2006. Optional accessories include ND filters, AC adaptor, MC protector, close-up lens, wide conversion lens, and tele conversion lens.
